19th Century Inspired Rain Bonnet
A 19th century inspired rain bonnet. The outside is made of a yellow nylon, which is trimmed and edged with a matching yellow nylon. The nylon combined with the fosshape frame makes this hat safely rainproof. The satin blue lining provides a contrast around the wearer's face while minimally disturbing the hairstyle underneath. I flat patterned this piece, then created the fossshape frame and covered it with nylon and satin, as well as a trim I made out of a second nylon to hide the seams.
Felt Wizard Hat
This hat was my first experiment with stretching felt over a block. The brim was created with foss shape, and I used two different trims to conceal the seams.
Corrective Dyeing Experiment
I began this project with several yards of linen that had been originally been white, were then dyed yellow with a synthetic dye, and then dyed again using a tie-dye kit. I applied two rounds of color remover to even out the dye and lighten it as much as possible. Then, I tested several samples to see how I could best create a green color. In the end, I had a lovely, evenly dyed sage green that showed no marks of its tie-dye history.
American Idiot
As Crafts Head for this show, I managed a large number of paint treatments, creative distressing, and alterations to give the show a punk/DIY feel. Additionally, I created a large number of accessories, including garters, bows, legwarmers, and more. Director: Lara Teeter Costume Design: Tiana Osborne Photography: Philip Hammer
